After an intensive 16 weeks, 11 startups successfully completed the Propel summer incubator program (PSI). This year's cohort accomplished some amazing feats. Over $750,000 sales across 101 countries, 85,955 website hits, 40,488 new social media users, 5276 app downloads, are a few of the significant achievements for this talented group of young entrepreneurs.
Propel, Western University's entrepreneurship accelerator, graduated the PSI cohort on August 18 at their annual Demo Day. This event showcased the startups to over 100 investors, mentors, partners and local community members.
The PSI program gives talented entrepreneurs the tools, resources and environment needed to fuel their startups growth and success in the local and global economy. PSI participant, Travis McKenna, believes that the program has been the best thing for his company and personal entrepreneurial development to date. "Working in an environment with other motivated, smart, creative individuals on similar paths is special in itself" stated McKenna, cofounder of Wrist & Rye. "When you add in the resources Propel offers, such as their staff, mentors, and affiliates, there is so much to gain from it all".
While most startup incubators in Canada focus on innovation and development, PSI offers a different perspective. Founded in 2015, the program was built with a sole focus - sales. Encouraging market-ready startups in any industry to grow through a unique combination of workshops, milestone-based funding and a team of in-house sales interns.
This year's cohort contained entrepreneurs from various sectors such as: consumer products, media, fashion, software, consumer products, fin-tech, real estate, entertainment, transportation, food & beverage and service.
